No one can serve two masters. Matthew 6:24

No one can serve two master No one can serve two master

The Gospel according to Matthew begins with the childhood of Jesus and the proclamation of the Kingdom of Heaven. The statements of Jesus about the Kingdom of heaven consists of a series of exhortations about the ethics of man. It is what is known as the Sermon of the Mount.
In the preaching of the Mount Christ announces the 8 beatitudes and a teaching about God and money: No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money, Matthew 6:24. This is one of the most famous teachings of Jesus about the danger of the riches.
Jesus is teaching us that there are two discernments, two mentalities, two basics forms of love: one love projected outward and another inward(selfishness). We all discern, we choose. Good and evil are ethical solutions, are points of views of the reality.
One discernment is benevolent, blessed, edifyng, contructiv, just, diffusive, compasive, this is living according to the spirit, the motivator of this mentality is to increase the happiness (or radiate happiness) and diminish suffering, in other words "increase the grace".
The other instead is destructive, selfish, chaotic, unfair, this is living according to the flesh, the fundamental motivators of this mentality are fear and greed.
Sin and God's law are lifestyles, we serve God or money. Serve God is to improve the world, is to be co-creators with God, serve God is to co-create, is to increase the spiritual gifts, is to increase the perfections in the world, perfecting ourselves and perfecting the world, that is the meaning of life when we serve God .
Instead when we serve only money we serve our selfishness, our own personal happiness without regard to the needs of those who are around us. Ultimately we choose between the love of ourselves and love for God, the love for all the creation.
