Bad company in the christian faith: Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs
Jesus taught us that there are social relationships that we must avoid. And this is so because of a relationship of similarity, those who live according to the flesh seek the carnal and those who live according to the spirit seek the spiritual. The spiritual makes no sense to someone who only values money, fame, and material things, for wicked people, wisdom is something that has no value: "You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God" James 4:4. According to the christian faith, bad company is dangerous, especially if we live in God's grace, because many times the sinners appear as friends in disguise and hidden enemies.
Also, Jesus explained in another way this opposition between the worldly and the spiritual: "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces" Matthew 7:6. In ancient times, dogs and pigs were considered animals of little value, unlike the horse or the bull. When Jesus spoke like this, he was referring to his enemies, the Pharisees and the doctors of the law, who in the face of the signs and miracles that he did, they only looked for a favorable occasion to accuse Jesus and kill him. Our Lord Jesus was a spiritual leader who had to fight against religious oppression; the ignorance and despair of common and simple people makes many things easy for powerful men: "My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge" Hosea 4:6.
Among fools the truth is counterproductive, this is what the Sacred Scriptures are explaining to us with wisdom: "Do not speak to fools, for they will scorn your prudent words" Proverbs 23:9.
When we talk about spiritual or sacred matters, these topics are for people who fear God, and not for people with a hard heart: "Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me" Psalm 66:16. The spiritual gift of fear of God is constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability.
