The true treasure: If riches are desirable in life, what is richer than Wisdom, who produces all things?
King Solomon, who was one of the wisest people in the world, instructed us in the search for the true happiness and prosperity in man. Common and simple people tend to focus on the most immediate and superficial needs, such as money or pleasure; but King Solomon invited us with his teachings to go further the appearances, to look for that cause that produces all the others, and that cause is wisdom.
Wisdom exists from the beginning of all things, what science can we use profitably and usefully without wisdom? The answer is none, wisdom is the mother of all sciences. To know wisdom is to know God and the true spiritual wealth taught us the sage:
"For she leads into the understanding of God,
and chooses his works.
If riches are desirable in life,
what is richer than Wisdom, who produces all things?" Wisdom 8:4-5.
Wisdom also teaches us to make decisions with intelligence, wisdom is precision and accuracy, she is the mother of all virtues in man, who is but a man without wisdom and without virtues but a fool?
King Solomon gave an example of this when he had to do exact justice in the case of the child and the two prostitutes (1 Kings 3:16-28), King Solomon resolved as God in person what was presented to his judgment, King Solomon emulated God. The Sacred Scriptures also tell us that everyone approached Solomon to listen to his wisdom and that he was also greatly enriched by applying the wisdom to matters of state and government, wisdom was for this ancient king, the true treasure that produced all other goods: "King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth. The whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart" 1 Kings 10:23-24.
This is how King Solomon explained that wisdom is the mother of all virtues and the good intelligence:
"And if prudence is at work,
who in the world is a better artisan than she?
Or if one loves righteousness,
whose works are virtues,
she teaches moderation and prudence,
righteousness and fortitude,
and nothing in life is more useful than these" Wisdom 8:6-7.
