The immortality of God
The wisdom book is a sapiential book of the old testament, its formal authorship is attributed to King Solomon but probably was written during the Hellenistic period since it was written in Greek and represents a synthesis of the Greek world with the culture of the Middle East.
This is very important at the time of reading and analysis the text because although it forms a block with other sapiential books such as the Ecclesiastes, Proverbs and Psalms; the style and terminology used in the book can not be found in any other of the Bible.
The first part is dedicated to the study of the destiny of man and the nature of wisdom; the second part is dedicated to the study of wisdom inside the divine providence.
It is in this second part that King Salomon expresses:
"For to know you is perfect justice,
and to know your power is the root of Immortality"
Wisdom 15:3
The term "perfect justice" is a Greek concept, used by Aristotle in his book Rethoric. The "perfect justice" or "exact justice" is the gift of counsel: listen, perceive with attention; meditate with intuition and inspiration; decide with crativity. The perfect justice is also known as emulating God.
In this book we often find the concept of Immortality, the gospels have a similar concept: the eternal life.
There is in Romans 2: 7, in the New Testament a brief reference to Immortality.
Eternal life and immortality accompany the gift of perseverance as the face and drought of the same coin. These spiritual gifts improve the charity, the state of grace.
What does immortality mean? In ancient times the average life of the people was around 30 years. Longevity, like the case of the ancient patriarchs, was considered a mystic secret only in posses of a few spiritual masters. Immortality is longevity.
That is to say, God is Immortal, but this divine attribute can be transmitted in a limited manner to the physical plane and so arise the spiritual gift of health, the longevity, the gift of immortality.
The persevering man is a long live man. Eternal life, on the other hand, are blessings that God gives as the advance of the life in glory. Among these blessings is the God's guide, contemplative activity, longevity. The eternal life includes Immortality.
"But earnestly desire the greater gifts" 1 Corinthians 12:31. We can enumerate some of these gifts or perfections: spiritual gift of counsel, spiritual gift of knowledge, eternal life, immortality, perseverance.
The best gifts or higher gifts are the result of the progressive thinking, from the development of the mind to the integrity or conformity to God, when we are able to resolve what is presented to our judgement as God in person arises the perfect justice, the life Eternal, the immortality.
Immortality and eternal life are similar concepts and lead us to the ultimate goal, the fulfillment of the divine beatitudes.
