Inspirational thought: Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death
The book of proverbs explains that badly acquired riches are no guarantee of anything, and this is so because what is obtained without work or effort can be lost for the same reason, ill-acquired riches do not give us peace of mind: "But as for the rich, their abundance permits them no sleep" Ecclesiastes 5:12. This is how the book of proverbs expresses this truth about bad riches, with an inspirational thought: "Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death" Proverbs 10:2.
Many times we see evil people prosper, while good people suffer from need and we wonder how these things happen, the bad examples abound. But the Bible teaches us that we should never envy the wicked whatever the situation: "Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife" Proverbs 17:1. The prosperity of the wicked is ephemeral because we are all subject to ethical laws, in particular, the law of reaping and sowing, a cosmic law of balance and retribution: "For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind." Hosea 8:7.
Righteousness (golden rule, Matthew 7:12) is the only path that can lead us to a safe haven, that is why the Bible tells us that righteousness frees us from death.
The Bible always teaches us that prosperity as such is a gift from God and that we do not prosper alone, when King Solomon ruled Israel, he was not only the richest King on earth, but also his people enjoyed the King's prosperity through good governance. Solomon is an example of what riches well acquired mean: "The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the seashore; they ate, they drank and they were happy" 1 Kings 4:20
The gift of righteousness blesses the one who gives it and blesses the one who receives it, the good builds. Wisdom is the source of all the gifts and blessings in man and whoever acquires it, has in himself that true treasure, wisdom is the science of sciences; cunning only leads us down a winding road.
