The spiritual search: But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. Romans 8:25
The virtue of Hope is a spiritual search for an immaterial good, and this spiritual good is the goal of all the spiritual life of man, this charism once achieved unites us in the most perfect manner to the spirit of God, and this is the spiritual gift of eternal life. This infuse virtue accompanies faith and subsists in man while the incompleteness of the believer in Jesus lasts, hope is realized in the love of charity, the love projected towards the whole creation of God. From Gnosis we can no longer speak of hope because the Kingdom of Heaven is perceived with intelligence, and the contemplative life perfects faith and hope and that is why we speak of trust or security in God.
The apostle Paul tells us something very important about hope: "Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently" Romans 8:23-25.
For the apostle Paul, the spiritual gift of eternal life is the same vision of God ("This is eternal life that they may know you the only true God" John 17:3), that is why he speaks to us in this way of the virtue of hope, without this vision of the perfect or the divine, the search for Christ has no meaning, this virtue saves us, holds us firmly in times of great difficulty and uncertainty, and frees us from the path of perdition (sinful life). The virtue of hope guides and sustains us on the correct path as we need to grow in the Word of God, which develops in us like the seed of the mustard tree, gradually and progressively. We could say that on this subject of eternal life there is a lot of spiritual marketing, but it is also true that we cannot live in despair, the gift of eternal life or the worship of wisdom, is the spiritual anchor of man.
